Transport and City Services Minister, Chris Steel, provided these responses to questions in the Legislative Assembly from Caroline Le Couteur MLA concerning Canberra’s urban forest and canopy cover.
The graph of canopy cover by suburb shows several inner south suburbs, especially Kingston and Barton, have canopy cover well below the ACT Government’s target of 30%. Indeed, the ACT Planning Strategy 2018 (pages 94-97) indicates that the canopy cover in the inner south as a whole is 20%, significantly less than Woden (25%), Weston Creek (25%), and North Canberra (24%).
